How soon can my child get health insurance with Healthy Families?

Once you call IEHP to apply over the phone, we will send you the application to sign and mail in to Healthy Families with the appropriate documents and your monthly premium (you may also wait to be billed). Once they receive the application with all of the correct documents, it is reviewed.  It takes about 3-4 weeks to be notified of the results. Your child will have coverage about 10 days after approval.

You mail the first month’s premium payment with your application.  You make payments directly to the Healthy Families Program, not to IEHP.  Premiums are due on the 20th of each month.  You can mail a personal check, cashier’s check, or money order, to:

Healthy Families
Pay Station
PO Box 537019
Sacramento, CA 95853-7019

You can also pay your premium over the phone, call 1-888-256-6167, or online at http://www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov/.  If you prefer to pay in person with cash, locate a Western Union Convenience Pay location.  Another payment option is to pay with Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), just follow the steps on the back of your monthly statement.
