Why immunize?

Vaccines can prevent many diseases that can kill or disable children. The vaccines are given as shots.  These shots help your child fight off diseases.

How do vaccines work?

A vaccine helps to make antibodies in your child’s body. By fighting and killing germs, these antibodies help build your child’s immune system.

Why so many shots?

Infants and young children need the most protection. By having them get vaccinated you can protect them from a harmful illness. Here are some illnesses that immunizations can protect your child from:

 Whooping cough (pertussis)

 German measles (rubella)

 Chickenpox (varicella)

 Mumps

 Polio

 Influenza (flu)

 Tetanus

What will happen if my child doesn’t get their shots?

If your child does not get their shots and they are around people who have a disease, they could become sick. Your child can get all the shots they need, at no cost for IEHP Members.
