Medi-Cal is no-cost for persons or families whose monthly income falls within the program limits, after deductions. Deductions are based on factors such as family size, health insurance, and working expenses.
 
A person or family may be asked to pay a "share of cost" if monthly income falls above the limit for free Medi-Cal.
If a family is notified that it needs to pay "share of cost" Medi-Cal, that family's children will usually qualify for the Healthy Families Program.
