IEHP is a managed care health plan. In managed care, your Doctor, a hospital and Specialist Doctors all work together to care for you. Your Doctor will provide your basic health care needs.
In most cases, IEHP does not contract directly with doctors. Your Doctor is usually part of an Independent Physician Association (IPA). An IPA is a group of Doctors, Specialists, and other providers of health care services. Your Doctor, along with the IPA, directs the care for all of your medical needs. This includes authorizations to see Specialist Doctors or receive medical services, such as lab tests, x-rays, and/or hospital care.
This extensive network includes more than 1700 private practice Doctors, 430 Pharmacies, 250 Vision Providers, and 27 Hospitals in two counties.
IEHP provides all benefits required by DHS under the "Two-Plan Model Managed Care Program." These benefits exclude dental and mental health services. Services for these benefits are arranged by DHS.
