No Limit on Prescriptions ... You Just Get the Right Ones
Our prescription policy is simple. We commit to providing appropriate drug therapy for each Member. You don’t have to worry about monthly limits or denials for prescriptions your Doctor shows are medically necessary.
The Right Medicine
IEHP’s Team conducts comprehensive reviews to ensure that all medications and dosages comply with nationally accepted standards. Medications not in IEHP’s formulary (pre-approved drugs) require pre-approval, but we review and acts on these requests within 24 hours.
We work hard to ensure that all your outpatient drugs are:
● Appropriate – so you receive the best treatment
● Medically necessary – because taking unwarranted medications can hurt rather than help
● Compatible – to prevent adverse reactions between medications
IEHP screens prescriptions for potential problems such as:
● Incorrect Dosages
● Negative Interactions: drug-drug, drug-allergy, drug-disease
● Drug Duplication – medicines with different names but the same characteristics or properties, uses, and effects
● Clinical Abuse and/or Misuse
● Inadvisable Medication – because medical history indicates it could cause unwanted or dangerous reactions to the Member (e.g., due to high blood pressure, allergies, pregnancy).
● Inappropriate Treatment Length
We also provide up-to-date information and training to Doctors and Pharmacists about clinically important, drug specific therapy problems.
