IEHP & CDIHP Work Together to Enhance Disability Services
As the Inland Empire’s principal health plan for people with disabilities, IEHP maintains a strong relationship with the Center for Disability Issues and the Health Professions (CDIHP).
IEHP-CDIHP Initiatives
Our partnership developed from a shared vision of health, wellness, and independence for people with disabilities. Together, we strive to enhance health care services for people with disabilities throughout the Inland Empire and state.
Our work together includes:
● Coordinating a Members with Disabilities Workgroup to guide IEHP’s programs and services
● Developing an enhanced Accessibility Audit of Doctor’s Offices
● Writing regular articles on disability issues for IEHP newsletters – The IEHP Heartbeat (Members) and The IEHP Pulse (Providers)
● Publishing accessAbility, quarterly newsletter for Members with Disabilities
● Conducting ongoing training for the IEHP Team
● Providing continuing education for Providers including 2-day trainings at IEHP University
● Organizing disability community meetings
● Hosting Regional Interest Groups meetings
● Convening Focus Groups to identify key stakeholder issues and service gaps
● Conducting regional and statewide research – including a study of The Experiences and Perspectives of Medi-Cal Consumers with Disabilities and a study on Disability Cultural Competency
● Identifying critical provider knowledge areas – including surveys to pinpoint areas of disparity between community needs and provider knowledge, documenting preferred providers (those the disability community feels have experience in critical knowledge areas), developing Provider training programs on critical knowledge areas
● Researching and publishing Myths of Managed Care
● Publishing a Savvy Health Care series (see downloads below)
CDIHP
The Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU), established CDIHP as a nonprofit organization to:
● Educate health care providers about disability issues
