DISABILITY EXPERTISE

IEHP Surveys Doctors & Specialists of the Inland Empire

IEHP pinpoints both available and needed resources for seniors and people with disabilities with surveys to Providers across the Inland Empire. Partnering with the Center for Disability Issues and the Health Professions, IEHP identifies specific skills and disability knowledge among primary care Doctors and Specialists.

Surveys

In collaboration with the Center for Disability Issues and the Health Professions (CDIHP), IEHP surveyed primary care Doctors identified by the CA Department of Health Services (DHS).  The DHS list includes:

● Family Practitioners

● Internists

● Pediatricians

● Obstetricians and/or Gynecologists

Collaboration on the project also included a group of primary care physicians at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) who tested and reviewed the survey prior to deployment. IEHP and CDIHP then adapted the survey for Specialists.

Findings

Survey findings include:

● Type of insurance coverage accepted

● Areas of practice – primary and sub-specialty/training

● Disability clinical knowledge, experience, and expertise

● Accessibility of the Doctor’s office facility

● Resources needed to better serve people with disabilities

Significance to Members

IEHP organized the survey results into a database so we can use it to:

● Assist Members in identifying a primary care Doctor

● Provide training for our network of Providers

● Identify resources for Members as well as Doctors and their staffs
