CAHPS – NATIONAL MEMBER SATISFACTION ASSESSMENT

IEHP Refines National Tool to Include Disability Experience

Deeply valuing the opinion of all our Members, IEHP partnered with CalOptima and the Center for Disability Issues and the Health Professions (CDIHP) to develop an enhanced CAHPS survey focused on the experience of Members with disabilities.

IEHP’s CAHPS on Disability

After modifying the CAHPS (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey to include disability experience, CalOptima graciously shared their tool with IEHP.

We then worked with CDIHP to further refine the consumer satisfaction survey to meet the needs of our disability Membership.  IEHP successfully deployed the enhanced assessment tool and adopted it for all future CAHPS surveys.

CAHPS

CAHPS (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) develops and supports the use of standardized surveys of Members’ experiences with health care.  The U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), a public-private initiative, administers the CAHPS program and now looks to create a standardized, national survey that also includes the disability perspective.

Health plans, consumers, and researchers use CAHPS results to:

● Assess the Member-centeredness of care

● Compare and report on performance

● Improve quality of care
